Vignaferrovia, a masterpiece of history and nature

In the heart of Tuscany, there is an oenological jewel that enchants with its uniqueness: the “Pian delle Vigne Vignaferrovia Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva”. This fine wine comes from a small vineyard of approximately 4.5 hectares, located near the ancient station of Pian delle Vigne, in clay and limestone soil, rich in small skeleton. This land gives Vignaferrovia a distinctive characteristic, a complex elegance wrapped in a dense tannic texture, balanced by freshness and sweetness.

The history of Tenuta Pian delle Vigne dates back to the 19th century, located south-west of Montalcino. The company, which extends over 184 hectares, of which 65 are under vineyards, has been owned by the Antinori family since 1995. The production philosophy is centered on the use of large barrels, which preserve the integrity of the Sangiovese, giving the Brunello an elegant vibrant and unique.

The particularity of Vignaferrovia is also evident in its location: near a historic 19th century railway station, the vineyard is on rocky and stony soil which naturally limits the vigor of the vines, enhancing the quality of the grapes. The south/west position of the vineyards allows sea winds to moderate summer temperatures, avoiding heat peaks that could damage the grapes.

Brunello di Montalcino Vignaferrovia is the result of a personal and profound interpretation of the Antinori family, who transformed a historic wine into a unique and unmistakable creation. The 2016 vintage, for example, benefited from a little rainy winter and a mild spring, conditions which favored budding and early flowering. The ripening of the grapes was optimized by light rainfall in September, which made the Sangiovese fresh and the tannins soft and balanced. The winemaking process, which includes fermentation in stainless steel and aging in wood for over two years, has contributed to creating a wine of exceptional quality.

The Pian delle Vigne Vignaferrovia 2016 stands out for its ruby red color and garnet reflections. On the nose, it is complex and intense, with notes of ripe fruit, dried flowers, spices and a vibrant blood note. On the palate, the wine is rich and soft, with silky tannins and remarkable persistence. The sensations of leather, tobacco and balsamic notes combine with those of ripe morello cherry and bitter cocoa in the finish.
